POSITION: QUALITY ENGINEER
Location: Wausau WI area
Report To: Quality Manager
Salary Range: $50000 To $60000 (Depending On Experience) + 10% Bonus
Relocation Assistance Approved

SUMMARY
Position is responsible for coordinating and directing operations and quality personnel to assure adherence with all aspects of a quality system that supports the production of safe, high quality product within design limits compliance. Leads continuous process improvement projects by applying an organized problem solving plan using Continuous Improvement tools, general statistical tools, process control and capability analysis. Responsible for training of employees in quality standards and lab testing and product analysis. Assures regulatory, company standards, and Quality Programs are in-place and implemented within a team work environment working 7/24 schedules by assisting the Quality Manager in the identification and remediation of gaps in current Quality practices, processes, procedures, and controlled documentation.

RESPONSIBLITIES
Leads process improvement efforts. Coordinates with Quality Manager and OSCI resources the on-going formal projects and other continuous improvement efforts. Uses Quality Windows and other process data to identify opportunities.

Guides raw ingredient and packaging material analysis by coordinating incoming inspection programs. Responsible for ingredient handling and storage compliance. Completes supplier complaint and leads root cause corrective action work with supply chain.

Prepares, and analyzes various quality data and reports. Positive Release, Quality Windows, and hold reports. Analyzes for changes, trends, developing issues. Evaluates on line process control and capability. Initiates and leads corrective actions and pro-active plans using SPC tools .

Provides training and coaching to quality staff, and production employees in the areas of GMP, analytical testing, lab practices, auditing, SPC, Problem solving and other statistic al tools.

Provides leadership in a team environment with emphasis on continuous improvement to maximize product quality with adherence to all quality and food safety standards.

Prepares procedures and methods in coordination with Operations for sanitation, GMP compliance, quality and process control. Assists with development and maintenance of HACCP plans, documentation, and verification.

Supports plant management staff as needed to coordinate technical change control. This includes all plant driven technical change and Corporate led projects. (new packaging, new products, process changes). Works directly with project leader to determine success criteria are met.

Interacts with all plant functions, suppliers, Corporate, governmental agencies and external auditors. Coordinates internal and external customer and company audit requirements. Provides back-up to Quality Manager on all key functions.

Supports the continuous training, record keeping, and maintenance of the food safety and quality practices within the Plant. Acts as point-of-contact, and through professional judgment in evaluation, suggests resolution to food safety and quality concerns, in the absence of the Quality Manager.

This is an exempt position working to support and foster a team environment. Responsible for achievement of quality goals and standards of performance, exercising judgment relative to achieving compliance to food safety and quality standards. Errors in judgment could impact customer relationships and financial loss to the company. Will require approval and guidance from Quality Manager to execute major product decisions and process improvement changes.


REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors Degree in Food Science or related field with a minimum of two (2) years food/beverage quality systems.

Technical skills including understanding of a broad set quality engineering skills, statistical process control (SPC), failure mode effect analysis (FMEA), process capability studies, statistical and quality sampling software, and developing sampling plans. Experience with application of these tools is required.

Requires the ability to influence others in daily interactions and good interpersonal skills in dealing with employees and peers on the production floor.

Appropriate business management skills, effective problem solving skills, and good communications skills are required.

ASQ Certification such as ASQ-CQE a plus.

HACCP knowledge and certification preferred.
